Lesson 2: What are International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures (ISPMs)?
One primary role of the IPPC is to develop and adopt standards for phytosanitary measures. These standards, called International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures (ISPMs), provide guidance on a variety of plant-health measures, from phytosanitary certification to pest-risk assessment. ISPMs promote a common understanding of plant-health terms, concepts, and measures. Compliance with ISPMs facilitates safe trade in plants and plant products.
