IPPC Information Exchange

The IPPC’s role in information exchange includes spreading information related to IPPC activities and functions, as well as making available pest related information. For example, the IPPC provides a web-based portal for members to share information about pest occurrence, pest outbreaks, pest distribution, pest spread, control measures, and legislation. Pest-related information for each country is provided to the IPPC by the official contact point. The official contact point (one contact point per contracting party) plays a critical role in exchanging official country-specific information related to pests and participation with the IPPC. Each country nominates an official contact point that is responsible for all IPPC-related information exchanged between contracting parties, between the Secretariat and contracting parties, and, in some cases, between contracting parties and Regional Plant Protection Organizations (RPPOs). The IPPC contact point should have the necessary authority to communicate on phytosanitary issues on behalf of the contracting party. As the contracting party’s single IPPC enquiry point, the contact should be able to ensure the information exchange obligations under the IPPC are implemented in a timely manner and provide coordination for all official phytosanitary communication between contracting parties related to the effective functioning of the IPPC.
